Winter in Canada can be rough on skin, especially on the delicate faces of young children. My five-year-old spends the most time outside because he walks to the bus for school. Lately I noticed dry, red patches around his lower lip. He had been biting his lips because they became chapped, and the skin turned flaky and irritated. I tried several lip balms but hesitated to use medicated products so close to his mouth.
When Weleda sent a few items to try, I was pleased to see that their Calendula Weather Protection Cream is a natural formula designed to protect against cold, wind and harsh winter weather. The cream contains pure beeswax and gentle lanolin, so it blends in well and is suitable for babies, children and adults with sensitive skin. With sweet almond oil and Biodynamic® calendula flower extract, this rich formula absorbs smoothly, offering comfort and protection while supporting the skin’s natural functions.
The Weather Protection Cream felt more oil-like than a typical cream, but it worked. After only a few applications the flaking and redness around my son’s lip cleared up and his skin looked healthy again. I also tested Weleda’s Cold Cream, which is intended for dry to very dry skin. It performed well on my hands, though I personally found the scent strong and couldn’t continue using it regularly.
