Ingredients you will need for this recipe

An ovenproof skillet works best; my favorite for recipes like this is a two-handled cast iron pan. The extra handle makes it easier to move the skillet in and out of the oven.

Tips and tweaks for making this low-carb skillet dish
A great family recipe should be flexible. Here are easy variations to try:
- Use leftover steak or roast beef: thinly slice and skip most of the searing and cooking steps.
- Serve as a sandwich: toast keto buns or make chaffles and pile the cheesesteak on top.
- Substitute cheeses: if you don’t have provolone, a mix of cheddar and mozzarella works well.
- No ovenproof skillet? Use a 9 x 12 casserole pan for the baking step.
- Following a carnivore plan? Omit the green peppers and mushrooms for a meat-only version.

This easy keto Philly cheesesteak skillet is a fast weeknight meal that comes together in about 30 minutes with only 2 net carbs. Family friendly and cooked in one pan, it keeps cleanup simple.
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak
- 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 5 white mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
- 6 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder; set aside.
- Thinly slice the flank steak across the grain, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the steak and sprinkle with the spice mix. Allow to sear without moving for 2–3 minutes.
- Increase heat to high and turn the steak every couple of minutes until well cooked and crispy, about another 10 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked steak to a plate, leaving the pan juices behind. Add the mushrooms and peppers to the skillet and cook about 3 minutes. (Skip this step for a carnivore version.)
- Remove the skillet from the heat, return the steak to the pan, and mix with the vegetables.
- Arrange provolone slices over the skillet so the ingredients are covered.
- Place the skillet in the oven for about 5 minutes to melt the cheese.
- Optional: broil for an additional 2–3 minutes to brown the top.
Notes
- Make this with leftover steak or roast beef by thinly slicing and skipping most of the searing.
- Serve on keto buns or chaffles for a sandwich-style meal.
- Swap provolone for a cheddar-mozzarella blend if preferred.
- If you don’t have an ovenproof skillet, transfer ingredients to a 9 x 12 casserole pan for baking.
- To make a carnivore-friendly version, omit the peppers and mushrooms.
